Packaging of the Toybiz 8-Inch Thor Action Figure
The 8-inch scale Thor figure from Toybiz comes in an 8" x 10" x approximately 2.5" deep box. The front panel of this Thor's box opens like a book and is attached on the underside with a velcro latch.
Toybiz has designed the Famous Cover Series Avengers' box so that a circle is die-cut into the front panel revealing his face. When you lift that front panel, you reveal the entire Toybiz Mighty Thor figure behind a clear plastic window.
All sides of the Famous Cover Series packaging from this Toybiz figure are covered in full-color graphics. The front panel also utilizes metallic gold foil highlights. Toybiz features Thor in Marvel Comics Journey Into Mystery number 83 on the front of the packaging of their Thor figure.
Head Sculpt & Body of the 8-Inch Toybiz Thor Action Figure
The Thor figure from Toybiz features a unique head sculpt with painted blue eyes and long yellow rooted hair. This Thor head sculpt would later be recycled for the Famous Cover Series Electro figure.
Thor utilizes a standard Famous Cover Series male super-hero body with 14-points of articulation which include his neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, groin, knees, and ankles.
Back Story of the Famous Cover Series Thor Figure
"Fleeing attacks from the sinister alien Stone Men from Saturn, lame physician Donald Blake escaped into a nearby cave, never suspecting his life would change on this fateful day. Becoming trapped in the cave, Blake used an ordinary-looking stick in order to aid in his escape, inadvertently releasing ancient Norse magic. Blake was stunned to find himself transformed into the mighty Thor! Defeating the Stone Men, Thor returned to Blake's world and the modern age to use is great power to protect the people of Earth."
This figure stands 9 inches tall and has 16 points of articulation. Thor is clad in his classic Marvel Comics look complete with his hammer (Mjolnir), removable red & black wrist bands, removable rubber boots, and removable plastic belt. Thor's helmet was sculpted separately from his head but then permanently attached to the figure. The base of the helmet is a matte silver and each side wing painted white.
The head depicts a strong, square-jawed hero who appears ready for battle. Thor has long bright yellow rooted hair. This Thor head sculpt was apparently reused for the Electro figure from this same line.
The mid-section is covered in a solid black material with six circles printed on the front side in metallic silver. A velcro latch is utilized along the spine of the figure.
The long red cape is stitched into the black top along the shoulders and also hemmed along the the three straight sides. Thor's legs are covered in a removable pair of deep blue colored tights that actually go completely up to the waist underneath the black top piece.
Like all of the Famous Cover Series figures, Thor comes in a window box and sits inside of a custom gold plastic, molded tray. The front artwork of the box features an image of Journey Into Mystery number 83 -- the first appearance of Thor in Marvel Comics.
