This 8" Mr. Spock action figure from the original Star Trek television series was produced by Mego as part of their 8-inch line of Star Trek action figures.
Mr. Spock was portrayed by actor Leonard Nimoy. Spock's title and rank on the series was science officer and second-in-command of the Starship Enterprise.
Mego 8-Inch Mr. Spock Head Sculpt
The 8-inch Mr. Spock Mego action figure bears a pretty good resemblance to actor Leonard Nimoy. The head has painted black hair and matching arched eyebrows as well as dark painted eyes. The Mister Spock head sculpt is unique to this Mego figure.
Mego Star Trek Mister Spock Outfit Design
The Mr. Spock Mego action figure is clad in a blue tunic detailed with a black neckband. There are two gold foil rank stripes on each arm just above the wrists. A silver foil insignia on the left chest area of the tunic is common to all Star Trek crew members including Spock. This delicate foil insignia typically falls off the uniform leaving only the underlying gray backing material in place.
For pants, Mr. Spock is wearing the same cuffed black trousers as the rest of the Enterprise's male crew. The cuffs end slightly above the ankles. These trousers are manufactured from a black flexible material which is very similar to the blue one used for Spock's shirt.
As with the 8-inch Mego Captain Kirk action figure and all other male crew members of the USS Enterprise manufactured by Mego, Mister Spock is also quipped with a removable black plastic utility belt containing a detachable light blue phaser & communicator.
Mr. Spock, like the rest of his male crew members, lacks removable boots – something not usually seen on a typical Mego figure. Instead, his boots have been sculpted in black out of the lower part of the figure's legs.
Besides a different head sculpt, the Mego Spock figure is identical to the 8-inch Mego Dr. Bones McCoy figure from the same line.
Articulation of the Mego Mister Spock Action Figure
As with the all male characters from the Mego Star Trek crew crew, Mr. Spock has no articulation in his ankles. This is due to the fact that the lower half of Spock's leg (from the knee down to the toes) is sculpted as a single piece of black molded plastic making up knee-high boots.
As a result, the Mego Mister Spock action figure (along with all male crew members from the Mego Star Trek line of figures) has only 12-points of articulation as opposed to the usual 14-points which Mego figures typically utilize. This feature makes the Mego Spock action figure a little harder to pose.
8-Inch Mego Mr. Spock Variants
As with the other male crew members from the Mego Star Trek line, Mr. Spock also had a few slightly different head variations. The first and rarest Mister Spock was a Type 1 head made of a lighter flesh tone and had light-pink painted details on the lips. The second Mister Spock figure from Mego was identical to the first except there was no lip paint details. The third and most common Mr. Spock Mego was a Type 2 head sculpted from a darker flesh tone with no painted lip detail.
