Star Trek Eight-Inch Mr. Scott (Scottie) Action Figure by Mego

This 8" Mr. Scott action figure from the original Star Trek television series was produced by Mego as part of their 8-inch line of Star Trek action figures.

Mr. Scott (aka Scottie) was played by actor James Doohan. The character's title and rank on the series was chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise. Mister Scott was famously known for his occasional line of "I'm givin' her all I can, Captain!"

Mego Star Trek Mr. Scott Head Sculpt

The Mego 8-inch Mr. Scott head sculpt bears a pretty good resemblance to actor James Doohan. Like all of the other Star Trek crew member figures manufactured by Mego, Scotty's head sculpt was unique to this figure.

The 8-inch Scottie head sculpt has painted dark brown/black hair and eyebrows along with blue eyes.

See variations below for specific details regarding this Mego Mr. Scott head sculpt.

Mego 8-Inch Scale Scottie Uniform Design

The Mego Scottie action figure comes clad in a red tunic with black neckband. There are two gold foil stripes on each sleeve just above the wrists which indicate Scotty's rank. A silver foil insignia on the left chest area of the tunic is common to all Star Trek crew members. This delicate foil insignia typically falls off the uniform leaving only the underlying gray backing material in place.

Mr. Scott's red tunic utilized a single miniature snap at the back of the neck. Only one snap is required for the Mego Mister Scott action figure because the red tunic material is flexible enough that the lower half of the back of the shirt is permanently stitched closed.

For pants, Mr. Scott is wearing the same 3/4 cuffed black trousers as the rest of the male crew. The cuffs end at around the calves. These trousers are manufactured from a black flexible material similar to the red one used for Scotty's shirt.

As with the 8-inch Mego Captain Kirk action figure and all other male crew members of the USS Enterprise manufactured by Mego, Mr. Scott is also quipped with a removable black plastic utility belt containing a detachable light blue phaser & communicator.

Mister Scott, like the rest of his male crew members, lacks removable boots – something not usually seen on a typical Mego figure. Instead, his boots have been sculpted in black out of the lower part of the figure's legs.

Articulation of the Mego Mister Scott Action Figure

As with the all male characters from the Mego Star Trek crew, Mr. Scott has no articulation in his ankles. This is due to the fact that the lower half of his leg (from the knee down to the toes) is sculpted as a single piece of black molded plastic making up knee-high boots.

As a result, the Mego Mister Scott action figure (along with all male crew members from the Mego Star Trek line of figures) has only 12-points of articulation as opposed to the usual 14-points which Mego figures typically utilize. These points of articulation include neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, groin, and knees. This lack of articulation in the ankles makes the Mego Scotty action figure a little harder to pose.

Mego Star Trek Mr. Scott Variations

As with the 8-inch Mego Doctor McCoy action figure, the Mego Mr. Scott action figure also saw four slightly different variations to the head sculpt.

The first Mr. Scott figure had a Type 1 head sculpted from a lighter flesh tone with dark-pink painted detail for the lips. The second Scottie Mego figure was identical to the first except that it had a light-pink painted detail for the lips. These first two Mister Scott Megos are the rarest.

The third Mr. Scott Mego figure was identical to the first two but lacked painted lip detail. The fourth and most common Scottie figure was a Type 2 head made from a darker flesh tone which had no lip painted detail.

These slight variations probably mark a simple change in materials (i.e. light flesh plastic to dark flesh and light paint detail to dark paint). The elimination of detail to the lips was probably a move by Mego to cut costs on labor and increase profits.
