This 8" Klingon action figure from the original Star Trek television series was produced by Mego. The Mego Klingon stands just under 8-inches tall and has 14-points of articulation (neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, groin, knees, and ankles).
Mego Star Trek 8-Inch Klingon Figure Head Sculpt
While there were many different actors who played Klingons on the Star Trek television series, the head sculpt of this figure seems to bear a very strong resemblance to actor William Campbell who played Captain Koloth in the Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles."
However, the Mego Klingon's uniform seems to be a little more reminiscent of the the Klingons as they appeared in the Star Trek animated series.
Mego Star Trek Klingon Action Figure Outfit
The Mego Klingon action figure comes clad in brown tights and a maroon-vinyl and brown-fabric tunic very similar to the outfits worn by the Mego Soldier Apes from the Planet of the Apes series. The tights utilize an elastic band in the waistline. The Tunic utilizes two snaps on the rearside which are attached along the spine of the figure.
The tunic is detailed with two brass-type beads at the neckline to emulate the style worn by Klingons in both the live action and animated series. The Klingon figure also has removable black knee-high boots.
The 8-inch Star Trek Klingon figure includes a removable black utility belt and detachable red phaser & red communicator. These are the same accessories that come with the Star Trek crew except that they are molded in different colors for the Klingons.
Mego Star Trek Klingon Figure Variations
As with some of the other Mego Star Trek figures, the Klingon action figure also went through changes to the head treatment. While the sculpt itself didn't change, there are subtle differences upon closer inspection.
The first and rarest Klingon head is a Type 1 sculpted from a lighter colored flesh and having painted details on the lips. The second version of the Mego Klingon head is identical to the first except there is no paint detail to the lips. The third and most common Mego Klingon head was a Type 2 head sculpted from a darker flesh color and lacking any lip detail.
The Mego Star Trek 8-inch Klingon figure can be found with three slightly different tunics. The first Klingon tunic was manufactured using a creamy-maroon vinyl for the exterior and has a red lining for the interior. This version of the tunic can be found on both Type 1 and Type 2 bodies. Although this is the rarest of the three, it's not very rare at all since the Klingon is actually a very common Mego figure.
The second version of the Klingon's tunic was manufactured using a brownish-maroon vinyl with red lining on the interior. This version of the Klingon's tunic can be found on both Type 1 and Type 2 bodies.
The third and most common Klingon tunic was manufactured using a creamy-maroon vinyl with brown-gray lining on the interior. This tunic is only found on Type 2 bodies, indicating that it was probably a later version of the Mego Klingon figure.
