Toybiz Famous Cover Series 8-Inch Captain America Figure

Toybiz and Marvel Comics present this Captain America figure as part of their Famous Cover Series line of figures.

Packaging of the Toybiz 8-Inch Captain America Action Figure

The 8-inch Captain America figure from Toybiz comes in an 8" x 10" x approximately 2.5" deep box. The front panel of Captain America's box opens like a book and is attached on the underside with a velcro latch.

Toybiz has designed the box so that a circle is die-cut into the front panel revealing Captain America's face. When you lift that front panel, you reveal the entire Toybiz Captain America figure behind a clear plastic window.

All sides of the packaging from this Toybiz figure are covered in full-color graphics. Toybiz features Marvel Comics Avengers number 4 on the front of the packaging of their Captain America figure.

Head Sculpt & Body of the 8-Inch Toybiz Captain America Action Figure

This Famous Cover Series Captain America figure features a brand new unique head sculpt with blue painted blue eyes and a wide opened-mouth expression.

Captain America utilizes a standard Famous Cover Series male body with 14-points of articulation including neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, groin, knees, and ankles.

Toybiz has given Cap his iconic red, white, and blue shield which can be attached to the figure with two elastic straps on the underside of his shield.

Back Story of the Famous Cover Series Captain America Figure

The year is 1941 and the world is at war. Deemed physically unfit to serve his country, Steve Rogers was transformed by the Super-Soldier Serum into the star-spangled hero, Captain America. Fighting for freedom during World War II, Captain America plunged into icy ocean waters during one of his missions, and was thought to have been lost for ever. Decades later, Cap was discovered frozen in a block of ice and, due to the serum in his veins, was revived, young as he was during the War. Seeking to continue his mission against the evils that plague the world, Captain America joined a team of heroes with the same vision, and became one of the Mighty Avengers.

I was so hopeful for these figures and probably desperate since there hadn't been anything else like them in years. The Famous Cover Series promised to be the new Megos, but it was a hard pill to swallow once you saw them. Looking back, these really aren't very good figures for a few reasons. First of all, the bodies are SO completely out of proportion that it's clear Marvel took a lead from popular comic book artists of the time like Rob Liefeld thinking this would strike a chord with fans. The waist is so small as compared to the shoulders & lats which are insanely wide. The arms are just too long for an average human and this is exaggerated even further by the removable gloves.

All of this carries over to the uniform where Captain America's star emblem is MASSIVE (both on his chest and his back). As far as the head is concerned, it's another angry looking hero from Toybiz and the "A" on his head is also oversized like the stars. The wings on either side of the head sit way too high. For proper placement, they should be much lower and closer to the ears and not extend above the top of the skull so much.

Tweaking the frame of the figure towards more normal anatomy would have been a vast improvement in these Famous Cover Series figures from Toybiz.
