This 8" Cheron action figure is based on the original Star Trek television series and was produced by Mego as part of their 8-inch line of Star Trek action figures.

Mego Star Trek Cheron Outfit and Sculpt

The Cheron Mego action figure design is actually based on a character called "Bele" from the Star Trek episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield." Bele was portrayed by Frank Gorshin who is most commonly known for playing the Riddler on the 1960's Batman television series.

Oddly enough, the head sculpt for Cheron was not based on Frank Gorshin at all. This is odd because Mego had done such an excellent job of capturing the look of the actors with their other Star Trek 7-inch figures. Instead, Mego re-used an 8-inch Alan Virdon Planet of the Apes action figure head and modified it by replacing the hair sculpt with a molded hood.

Cheron's head is molded in white with black paint applied on the right side. Cheron's body is cast entirely in black plastic, with the exception of his left hand which is white.

The Mego Cheron figure is clad in a one-piece bodysuit which is split down the middle (black on the right side and white on the left side). Cheron's belt matches the black and white of his bodysuit and is sewn on to give some detail to the simple design.

This Star Trek alien has his outfit completed with a pair of removable short boots (one black, and one white) placed on the matching colors of his bodysuit. Note that the photos of Cheron on this page do have the correct short boots.

Although the 8-inch Star Trek Cheron figure is fairly common insofar as how many were produced, there are a few things to consider when searching for an original. Cheron figures often suffer from stains on the white part of the outfit which can eventually turn all the white areas to brown or black. There have been reported cases of dealers trying to sell a Cheron figure in this condition as a "rare variant" –– this is not the case.

The staining happens as a result of the dyes used in the black body of the Cheron figure. In order to avoid this from happening, some collectors have swapped out Cheron's usual black body with a Mego flesh-colored one –- this also is not a variant. So, finding a MIB Mego Cheron without any of the staining that occurs naturally over time can be quite a challenge.
