8-Inch Scale MIGHTY THOR Action Figure from Mego
Mego and Marvel Comics present this 8-inch scale THOR action figure.
The Mighty Thor was first introduced by Mego into the World's Greatest Super-Heroes line of action figures in 1975. The Thor character was a great choice for Mego since he allowed collectors to grow their Avengers team (Iron Man and Captain America had previously been released).
Like Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Girl, The Human Torch, The Thing, and Conan the Barbarian, Thor was never released on a Type 1 body.
Like Conan the Barbarian, Thor also has rooted hair. Thor and Conan are the only two male figures from Mego's World's Greatest Super-Heroes line of action figures that have rooted hair. Thor's hair is, however, longer than Conan's and blonde where Conan's is black.
As far as the WGSH line is concerned, Mego really did some unique things with Thor's outfit. From top to bottom, the Mego Thor action figure has many distinctions not seen on any other Mego figures.
Thor's boots are totally custom for this figure. They are made from a soft, flexible rubber similar to the one used for the boots of The Falcon Mego action figure. Thor's boots are molded from yellow material with the underside of the rim painted black.
Mego's Thor has a pair of red wrist bands. These wrist bands have two variations -- one with two rows of black stitching on each and another version that is simply red.
Thor's helmet is incredibly accurate to what's presented in all of the Marvel Comics. The helmet secures to the figure's head with a small notch that fits into a hole in the top of Thor's head. The hole itself is mostly hidden because of the rooted hair in Thor's head.
The original Mego helmet has a reflective chrome-like finish to it. Reproductions have more of a matte, non-reflective silver finish.
No Thor action figure would be complete without his hammer, Mjolnir. The hammer is perfectly scaled to the 8" action figure and can easily be placed into Thor's hand or his belt.
Like Superman, Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Shazam, Thor has a cape made out of a material that is very subject to fraying. Thor and Superman are the only Mego caped figures that also have an elastic band stitched into the top of the cape just around the neckline.
