Marvel recently announced that Thor would become a woman and Captain America would now be black. It's common knowledge that the Johnny Storm is going to be played by a black actor in the next Fantastic Four movie. Additionally, the cast is going to be significantly younger than the way they've been portrayed in the fifty year old comic book.
Even smaller changes like taking away Superman's red shorts or moving Tony Stark's base of operations to the West Coast. Why is the comic book industry constantly making such drastic changes to clearly defined character traits?
