This rare First Appearance 9-inch Batman figure isn't technically a Hasbro piece in that it wasn't released under the Hasbro brand. However, the figure was obviously built utilizing the same bodies and technology used for the rest of the Hasbro 9-Inch DC Super-Heroes line of figure.
The First Appearance Batman was only released as part of the Masterpiece Edition which was a boxed set containing a reprint of Batman number 1, a hardcover book titled "Batman: The Golden Age, and the 9-inch Batman figure. Similar sets were done for both Wonder Woman and Superman, but the Batman set was the only set that included an articulated action figure.
Head Sculpt of the 9-Inch Masterpiece Edition Batman Action Figure
The Masterpiece Edition Batman utilizes a brand new head sculpt representing Batman as he appeared for the very first time in Detective Comics number 27. Pointed ears accent the black cowl. Flesh colored skin is utilized for the jaw and solid white for his eyes.
Body Type of the 9-Inch First Appearance Batman Figure
The 9-inch first appearance Batman figure utilizes a standard Hasbro DC Super-Heroes body. Batman features 17-points of articulation including neck shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, torso, waist, groin, knees, and ankles.
Costume Design of the 9-Inch Masterpiece Edition Batman Figure
Taken directly from Detective Comics number 27 (the very first appearance of Batman), this Batman figure is clad in a gray bodysuit with black, stitched-in shorts. The bodysuit is permanently attached to the figure and cannot be removed.
The poseable hands of this 9-inch Batman figure are molded from purple plastic to emulate the look of the short purple gloves worn by Batman in his early days.
The black boots are not removable. The foot part of the boot is sculpted from black plastic and contains a flexible ankle. Above the ankle, similar black plastic is permanently attached above the gray bodysuit.
A removable pale yellow utility belt sits around Batman's waist. The belt is sculpted from a soft rubber. A detachable black batarang attaches to the belt.
Batman's outfit is completed with a highly detailed poseable cape. Five bendable wires are stitched into the length of the cape allowing for a multitude of poses. The cape itself is made from black material on the outside and a bluish gray on the underside. The cape is permanently attached to Batman's bodysuit.
