These limited edition Comic Book Champions pewter figures retailed for $25 when they were released around 1996. Personally, I remember picking them up from Toys 'R Us. Each figure is based on an iconic era in the hero (or villain's) comic book past. The poses and overall sculpture quality are exceptional.

The figures and the immediate base beneath are actually sculpted from real metal (assumably pewter) making them pretty heavy for their size. Each figure comes with a numbered certificate and the packaging indicates that this is the one and only time these figures will be cast -- the molds will be destroyed afterwards. All of that truly makes this a collectible.

With all of that in mind, I'm at a loss for why these figures can still be found twenty years later for retail price or less. Perhaps when you look a little deeper, you'll find the answer...

Even though the pieces are limited and contain a numbered certificate of authenticity, nowhere does it specify precisely how many pieces were cast. Obviously a total of 3K would be highly desirable while 100K pieces would make each much less valuable.

Pricing aside, these DC and Marvel Comics pewter Comic Book Champions are an incredible catch even twenty years after their initial release. Highly recommended!!
