8-Inch World's Greatest Super-Heroes Figures from Mego
Mego Corporation launched their immensely successful World's Greatest Super-Heroes line of 8" action figures in 1972.
The original release of figures included a total of only four characters and all from DC comics. These very first Mego DC super-hero action figures were Batman, Robin, Superman and Aquaman.
A year later, in 1973, Mego produced a mixed bag of figures for the World's Greatest Super-Heroes line of action figures. From Marvel Comics they added Spider-Man and Captain America. That same year they also added DC's Captain Marvel who was now more commonly known as Shazam! along with Tarzan who was being publised in DC Comics at the time.
It 1974, Mego further expanded their World's Greatest Super-Heroes line (WGSH) of action figures. Two years after Mego first launched WGSH they were finally ready to add female action figures as well as giving the heroes some super villains to battle.
The very first female action figures to be added to the World's Greatest Super-Heroes were titled the Super-Gals series and included Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Catwoman.
The super villains series, released that same year, was titled The Super-Foes and included Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Mr. Mxyzptlk.
