Mego Eight-Inch Scale Bodies

Mego utilized several different types of bodies for their eight-inch scale line of action figures.

The most basic breakdown of Mego 8-inch bodies is Type 1 and Type 2. There are, however, various other bodies like the fat-man, the female, and other unique ones like the Thing, and the Lizard.

Mego Type 1 Bodies

Mego Type 1 bodies are the originals and the figures are jointed with visible silver metal inserts at the elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles.

The upper ball joint of each limb of a Mego Type 1 figure is covered in a rough texture in order to help make posing the figure easier by creating friction.

Mego Type 1 bodies were held together internally by elastic bands which joined the four limbs inside of the torso and created internal tension to hold everything together.

Mego Type 2 bodies were significantly different from Type 1. Type 2 bodies were aesthetically much nicer to look at because they eliminated the metal fasteners on the elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. The entire body was sculpted from one type of plastic and the joints were connected using small plastic plugs with matching caps.

Internally, Mego Type 2 bodies switched from white elastic bands to small metal hooks and heavy-duty rubberband-like connectors.

Mego Type 2 bodies are much more poseable and can stand straight up much more naturally than Type 1 bodies.
