Vintage 4.5-Inch Super Powers Figures from Kenner
Kenner and DC Comics present these 4.5-inch scale action figures as part of their Super Powers Collection. The line was released starting in 1984 and lasting until 1986.
Features of the Kenner Super Powers Line of Action Figures
The DC comics figures in this line have a standard seven points of articulation including the neck, shoulders, groin, and knees. Each DC Super Powers figure stands between four and five inches high.
One very noteworthy item about this line is how each figure features a power action feature. But even more than that, Kenner was able to successfully hide the trigger mechanism inside of the figure so as not to interfere with the anatomy by having awkward knobs or switches.
All figures from series one and series two in the Super Powers line also included a full-color mini comic book featuring an adventure for the same figure.
History of the DC Comics Super Powers 4.5-Inch Line of Action Figures
The Super Powers Collection utilized colorful branding and fantastic artwork to feature the characters as they were known in popular DC Comic books from the time. In order to keep the figures themselves true to the artwork, well-known comic creators were tasked with designing the characters for this Super Powers line. Many of the figures were based on José Luis García-López' and Dick Giordano's established designs. Jack Kirby was paid royalties for his work on this line including the New Gods and Darkseid. George Pérez was similarly employed for Cyborg and Lex Luthor.
This Super Powers Collection of figures from Kenner also represented the beginning of the end for Mego Corporation who lost the licensing rights for these DC Comics characters to Kenner.
