Back Story of the HASBRO SIXTH SCALE UNIVERSAL MONSTERS CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON ACTION FIGURE
In the deep, dark, murky depths of the Amazon River lives a mysterious creature whose existence suggests a prehistoric link between hand and fish.
Discovered by a scientific expedition in the backwaters of the jungle, the "Gill Man" is captured and becomes infatuated with the female member of the the troupe, only to escape and kidnap the object of his affection. This inter-specieis romance was terrifying indeed… and a huge hit with audiences!
The Gill Man was played by two different actors, one for the land scenes and another for the underwater shots. His costume, expertly designed by Bud Westmore, was a one piece body suit with a dorsal fin running down the back, a helmet-like mask with wide, extended lips, and large finned gloves and boots for the extremities. The character had no dialogue, so the actors relied on body language to communicate.
An air hose was used to shoot underwater scenes so the actor would be able to hold his breath for five minute intervals.
Beautiful underwater photography and choreographed swimming sequences also make this suspenseful, imaginative film a horror classic. As the first post-war horror star, the Creature From The Black Lagoon is a memorable tribute to the genius and creativity of Hollywood film makers.
