Following the dismissal of Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond Stantz and Dr. Egon Spengler from the university where the three performed parapsychological research, Venkman convinces Ray and Egon to capitalize on their theorized method of apprehending and containing ghosts. Dr. Venkman later takes a personal interest in the Ghostbusters’ very first customer, Dana Barrett. Though Venkman is initially unable to uncover evidence of the entity, Zuul, which has been haunting Dana’s apartment at 55 Central Park West, events unfold that later reveal Zuul's existence.
