Overview of BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES

Batman – The Animated Series ran from 1992 until 1995. The show is an animated TV series based upon the DC Comics superhero Batman (who else?) Batman (a.k.a. The Dark Knight) battles crime in Gotham City with the occasional help from Robin and Batgirl. In the series, a moody Caped Crusader (BATMAN) defends Gotham City against the usual suspects like JOKER, PENGUIN, POISON IVY, RIDDLER, MR. FREEZE and others. Funko has modeled this Pop! Heroes POISON IVY figure Number 157 after the designs used for the character as she appears on the Batman Animated series.

The animated series was inspired by director Tim Burton's dark theatrical films from a few years earlier. The series was also modeled after the Fleischer Superman cartoons which were a series of short animated films released in Technicolor by Paramount Pictures. The Batman animated series was developed by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski. The show was renamed `The Adventures of Batman and Robin' for its final year. An animated movie, "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" was also produced based on the animated series.

The series was re-branded as The New Batman Adventures and ran from 1997 until 1999.
