1975 Marvel World Adventure Playset by Amsco

Amsco (a division of Milton Bradley) presents this Marvel World Adventure Playset. This amazing and incredibly rare playset was produced by Amsco in 1975 and features a mini Marvel universe of full color cardboard buildings and Marvel Comics characters.

Features of the Marvel World Adventure Playset from Amsco

The entire Marvel World Adventure Playset is made from heavy-weight cardboard with full color graphics printed on both sides. All of the pieces are die-cut and easy to punch out. You assemble the buildings and create your own Marvel universe.

Make no mistake about it, these weren't simple paper cutouts – these buildings were detailed and accurate to what fans were familiar with in the Marvel Comics books. Not only did the structures look great from the outside, but you could turn them around and "step inside" of each one.

The Marvel-ous structures had die-cut open windows and doors that could open and close. The tops of the buildings even had printed detail just like a real rooftop including stonework and skylights.

The Fantastic Four's headquarters, the Baxter Building, looked incredible enough from the outside, but when you turned it around and "went inside" you would find a 3-D version of the Negative Zone looking exactly like it does in the comic books.

Peter Parker's workplace, the Daily Bugle, had a three dimensional marquee at the entrance with office space inside complete with filing cabinets, chairs, desks, and windows.

And the structures weren't just plain four-sided buildings. Each structure was a different height with unique and interesting shapes and architecture. Once all of the buildings from the Marvel World Adventure Playset were placed together, you had an amazing skyline that looked like something right out of a comic book.

The Marvel World Adventure Playset also came with over thirty Marvel characters. Each character was also die-cut and double-sided printed. After you punched the characters out, you would place them into small yellow plastic stands for play.

Most of the characters had the same mirror image on either side, but a few were really unique. Captain America had his alter ego on the other side, Steve Rogers. The Incredible Hulk had Bruce Banner on the second side.

In 1975, this set really did put the entire Marvel Universe in your hands.

Part of the reason this Marvel World Adventure Playset is so rare is because of the nature of the toy -- you punch out the pieces, build the city, and then play with it. Many of these sets were most likely played with until they were in poor shape and then simply thrown away.
