From the small screen of Speed Racer animation comes this custom Mego Racer X 8-inch action figure.
Racer X, the brooding soldier of fortune from the world of Speed Racer is actually Rex Racer – the oldest son of Mom and Pop Racer and the older brother of Speed and Spritle. Racer X drives the number 9 car, the Shooting Star.
Racer X was voiced by Peter Fernandez on the original animated series.
Custom Mego Racer X Head Sculpt
The head sculpt of this custom Mego Racer X figure is very nicely done and painted with extreme care. The white "X" across his forehead is a decal.
The only problem with Racer X's head sculpt is in the mold itself. As you can see from the close-up shot, there are several pock marks that should have been worked out in the mold prior to producing the head.
This Racer X custom head could easily be used to create a custom Mego Cyclops figure.
Speed Racer Custom Mego Racer X Oufit
This custom Speed Racer character figure proves that simplicity is the height of fashion. Racer X is clad in a one-piece white bodysuit with a single miniature snap on the back just below the base of the neck.
The perfectly sized and placed "M"-style emblem on Racer X's chest is made from a red decal.
Racer X is wearing short light brown removable plastic gloves similar to those seen on the Mego 7-inch Teen Titan action figures. Racer X also has matching light brown removable plastic pirate-style boots.
To tie everything together and create contrast, this 8-inch custom Speed Racer figure has a removable black plastic belt around his waist.
Racer X also came with a nice black perfectly scaled pistol. Unfortunately there's no holster in his belt and, without removing a glove, Racer X is unable to hold the pistol.
8-Inch Custom Racer X Body
This custom Speed Racer figure is made from a Mego repro body and that is the single biggest problem with this Racer X figure – the jointing of this figure is terribly loose.
